Frequently Asked Questions

Where should CCTV be used?
Anywhere! Literally - not only as a security measure but can be used for staff protection, staff management and criminal damage.
Please note there are some legislation with regards to the Data Protection Act, click here to read CCTV Code of Practice.
Should I use Overt or Covert?
It depends on the circumstances, however overt (visual) cameras are more popular especially as they act as a deterrent as well as recording activity. Covert (hidden) cameras are used for delicate situations where there are ongoing problems that cannot be dealt with during conventional business conduct. Both types of systems are extremely effective.
Should I use Colour or Black and White?
Again, it depends - colour does not work well in dark conditions unless you have superb lighting or use of Digital Cameras. Infra Red will also not work with Colour Cameras. Black and White Cameras are normally a higher specification and offer a far crisper picture. Black and White will work well at night with the aid of Infra Red or normal Halogen Lighting.
Which Lens do I use?
This is a complicated question, one which we would be happy to discuss to suit individual requirements.
What is Motion Detection?
Its a 2 to 4-channel automatic outdoor video motion detection system for CCTV installations and provides a detection trigger for video recording, video transmission, guard alert, or general alarm. This integrates seamlessly with existing CCTV systems with no set-up or user intervention required. It usefully has automatic adaptation to changing conditions and new scenes from pan, tilt and zoom (PTZ) cameras. It is insensitive to moving foliage and camera vibration with 4 inputs, 4 loop-through outputs, and 4 on-screen detection display outputs. The additional on-screen display output uses a built-in 4:1 switcher with blank screen option. Please do not hesitate to call us for a free survey or quotation.
What is DVR?
DVR or Digital Video Recording is a PC based system that records your CCTV images digitally rather than on a VHS tape. The DVR system will replace your Monitor, your Multiplexer and your VCR and the camera images are stored on the hard disc on the PC.
