Why have a business continuity plan?

According to research carried out by small business insurer Direct Line for business, within the last 2 years in the UK over 550,000 businesses have been forced to halt trading for one reason or another. The average cost of keeping a business afloat whilst unable to trade is £8,775 fortnightly, for larger businesses this cost will be more.

On average businesses forced to cease trading due to a disruption were shutdown for more than 3 months, 1 in 5 small businesses claim that if they were to cease trading for more than 1 month they would not survive.

Due to the results of disruptions, large organisations have long been working on their business continuity plans and have seen the benefits planning brings, however SME’s are lagging due to the costs and resources needed.

Crises Management Systems are a simple and effective approach to reducing the absurdities built into most business continuity planning – they provide a purpose-built tool.
